The Sunday before Lent. (Cheesefare) Sunday. This, the last of the preparatory Sundays has two themes: it commemorates Adam’s expulsion from Paradise, and it is also the Sunday of Forgiveness. We participate in a ceremony of mutual forgiveness to prepare us spiritually for the Lenten season. This day emphasizes the importance of forgiveness in Christian life, reflecting on the need for reconciliation with others and with God (K. Ware, The Lenten Triodion).
